How to win any customer service battle

I was watching Power Lunch on CNBC today and customer service was a main topic.

The segment was titled, "How to win any customer service battle." Here's a run down of how to handle your next customer service issue.

Skip voicemails and e-mails. You MUST talk to a person.

Always stay pleasant and calm. You want to establish a relationship with the customer service representative. These people, sometimes, can solve you problem, but more often they are the gatekeeper to the person that solves your problem.

If things don't work out, always aim higher. Ask for the manager, the supervisor, etc. Often, the gatekeeper will try to prevent from moving up the chain of command. Do not be deterred.

If one customer service rep leads to no action, call again and try to get a different representative.

Again, don't leave a voice mail message when you finally get through to the supervisor or manager, unless it's the only option after multiple attempts.

After all options are exhausted, write to every senior management person in the company.
